Curriculum

This Spring, we focus on creativity - the ability to imagine original ideas or solutions to problems and make them happen. We’ll help kids develop creative mindsets and strategies that they can use throughout their lives to invent new things, solve problems, express their ideas and feelings, and to nurture relationships. And, we’ll do it all through enriching, outdoor play!

Our lessons follow a steady progression and are organized into three units:

- In our Building Blocks unit, we focus on the Three B's - the three core processes that we use when we are creative.

- In our Creative Thinking unit, we use pretending, to explore divergent thinking and discover many possible solutions to problems.

- In our final Creative Expression unit, we explore how we can express ideas and feelings through art, music, and movement.

What is Class Day Like?

Nature is our classroom! Every lesson connects us to the natural world where creatures are our teachers, and mud and sticks our tools.

Class rhythm:

- Welcome and transition

- Opening Circle

- Guided Play

- Closing Circle

In each class, explorers will be offered a variety of invitations to play, and they are invited to play however suits them best! Research shows that we can support our children's development best when we let them lead the way in play, and in being outdoors! Through these mixed aged outdoors classes children will find much inspiration to play, imagine and wonder, and we see this inspiration going home with children each week to further inspire creative play at home!

These classes are designed to have a parent or guardian accompany the enrolled child/children. During class not only do our children get to learn, but as adults we are also always learning alongside them! As the accompanying Guide you'll learn ways to support your child's development during these oh so important early years, and how you can easily and simply support learning beyond our class time. We have moms, dads, grandparents, nannies, family and friends who have filled this "Guide" role in our classes and it is part of what builds connection and community that reaches beyond our class time together!
